We have been experimenting with the Amazon EC2 service and Gremlin (another Alex and server guru) is blogging about setting up and managing EC2 at elastic8.com which, of course, is itself running off an EC2 instance.

example exif geotagged imagesI knew there were rumours that Flickr was going all geotag-crazy but 1.6 million geotagged photos in 33 hours is ridiculous! ...in a good way I mean......now...when will they add automatic reading of geotags contained in the exif information (internal info saved into the image file)? [UPDATE: oops...they have already according to Jack's comment]

image overlayI cobbled together a little google map demo: Baneasa development image overlay on Google maps. Follow the link or click on the image to go to a demo of overlaying a semi-transparent PNG image onto a google map...note that the image resizes with different zoom levels...cool...

I have been away for a couple of weeks on vacation and because I have not installed captcha for Drupal yet, I had around 400 comment spams to delete - thanks to Alex, Drupal Guru, it only took 7 minutes (5 minutes for him to create the Toggle All comments selection bookmarklet and 2 to go through the pages and pages of spam)

I got around a fair bit this weekend - Baneasa on saturday (north of Bucharest) and all the way out west today (lacul Morii, West Park, Sema) and also east to Titan (Noor - well almost, Edenia) today...some problems with the picture quality on the Nokia phone-camera but the gps positioning seems to be working ok...geo-coded images

I have been adding quite a few geo-coded images in and around Bucharest - many while visiting some of the new residential and commercial real estate developments...the comparison of google maps satellite imagery (3 years old?) and real life is quite interesting sometimes...:
