Aerial photos of Bucharest - google mapped

Google Maps with KMLIf you go to Google Maps and then copy this url into the search box:http://www.notez.ro/upload/trn/aerial_bucharest.kmlit should automatically show you a mashup of aerial photos of Bucharest and their approximate locations (you will need to manually switch to satellite view).Alternatively click on Aerial photos of Bucharest to go there directly.Basically the kml file ties the two services together - a very simple mashup. Google maps (Web) supports some of the functionality of Google Earth (desktop application), specifically KML/KMZ files (a Google/Keyhole markup format for geo-coding).How did I do this?1. I looked at the photos and chose an approximate longitude/latitude for them - you could do this with pen and paper with a web browser open on Google maps or use Google Earth or a custom web page for bookmarking locations - I used a combination.2. To get the HTML for the pictures and previews etc I looked at the feed for Edysan at flickr and copied some of the code there and cleaned it up a bit in a spreadsheet (hmmm).2. I used the spreadsheet to tabulate the HTML, the longitude/latitude and to do the code for the popups which is basically the RSS feed from flickr (but KML is basically XML and you have to be veeeery careful with cases of the markup tags otherwise it won't work and you will get frustrated)3. I then copy pasted into a text document and 'Saved as' KML.It should have been relatively straightforward but I lost quite a few hours on syntax errors in the XML or HTML (I am a newbie at this).Other thoughts- What would be nice would be to overlay the photos on top of a satellite view to provide more detail. This is possible in Google Earth. I managed this for one of the pictures and even saved this overlay as a KML file but Google Maps (web) does not support the GroundOverlay tag (yet).- Alternatively, marking a polyline within Google Maps perhaps showing the extent of the photos would be cool - I might look at this again...Thanks to:- Mike Williams' explanation and examples Sending KML files to Google Maps especially for inserting html into the Google Maps info-boxes.- Edysan for taking the pictures and making them available.aerial photo vs google earth
